No, no, no... "I" had the engine in a brace of Series 3s' (the za equivalent of a Stage 1). But
the R6 did make it's first appearance in the B-L Austin Marina, and also in the Rover sedans
of the period. The engine was a lengthened Aussie 4 cylinder. On paper it was a better
performing engine than the early Rover V8, and, in fact, it ran fine 'till the first time it had a
hiccup... Then it broke spectacularly! Main problem could be traced to stretch headbolts of a
very peculiar profile that COULD NOT BE REUSED under any circumstances - but always
were due to replacements being unobtanium. It also used to eat the keyway on the front
main pulley.
I could write books on where those engines failed me and what hairy engineering feats we
used to keep them running.
