I have allways understood that the thermostat is to ensure the engine
reaches its optimum operating temperature by allowing the coolant to
circulate around the block , once the thermostat reaches the correct
temperature it opens to allow coolant to flow through the radiator and the
heater. I also seem to recall that if you are operating at higher altitudes
you need to install a differently rated thermostat

Road test done, verdict...she runs cool. I'm leaving the thermostat out
but will put it in the tool box just in case. I'm heading to Canada after
work tomorrow. Me, Courtney, Lucy, and all my camping stuff. I was so
wrapped up with the starter/radiator I almost forgot my spare tire. I'll
see some of you when you get to Silver Lake.
Oh CANada, blah blah blah blah, blah blahhhhhhh ;)
