Not sure about plastic, But I used rubber washers everywhere on my rebuild.
Also got some real thin rubber sheet gasket material to cut gaskets to go
between frame and tub at the mounting points.

I rub down parts with either laquer thinner or acetone and clean cotton rags
(old tshirst work great) before painting to remove contaminants. If it's a
body panel then last step is a tac clothe before painting.
