    David,
The mid sized IH tractors weren't Cub Cadets, but called the IH Farmall Cub
and were red,(marketed to country clubs for golf course maintenance, etc.,
if my feeble memory serves from my teen days working at my best friend's
father's IH farm dealership in Candor, NY. See
http://www.equipment-locator.com/asp/default.htm ...is this the model we are
    discussing?
I grew up mowing lawn with my Dad's '63 IH Cub Cadet, 7hp Kohler single,
yellow and white, 36" belly mower and front snow blower. Overbuilt like a
LR. Used same 3 spd tranny as the larger Farmall Cubs. Family still uses
it weekly year-round today. Rebuilt only one time.

I think the company who purchased the IH Cub Cadet lawn tractors was MTD in
    Tennesee.

If I'm wrong, then never mind...actually I thought I was wrong once, but I
    was mistaken!

"Some confusion here about different sizes of IH tractors. The Cub Cadets
were small, less than 3 ft high at the top of the hood, originally with 7
and 10 HP Kohler engines. IH started building them in '60 and continued
until '81. All were yellow and white with "Interntational Cub Cadet" on the
sides of the hood, and the IH logo on the grille. Some of the components
were apparently sourced from larger equipment and is overbuilt.

IH sold the Cub Cadet business oin 1981 to MPC(?) in Ohio who still builds
Cub Cadets without the International name or IH logo. My wife visited the
MPC plant in Ohio in the mid-80's. They were quite proud of their Cub Cadets
and had a separate assembly line for them. Their other mowers and tractors
are much less substantial, and are frequently sold as house brands.

IH built a considerably larger tractor which was popular for large
commercial and institutional grass cutting, etc. I think it was called a
Cadet. It was maybe 3/4 the size of a small farm tractor, and was also
    yellow and white.

I also have seen small farm tractors by IH, with the gas tank above the
engine forming the top of the engine cover, and the steering column shaft
running diagonally beside the engine. My impression is these date from the
'30's until the '60's. I don't recall if they were Cubs or not. All that
    I've seen were red.

    Regards,
    David Cockey
