Really?. The guy at the local Shell station seems happy enough when
i show up. When i come in to pay he says:

- Good afternoon Sir, - that will be DKK XXX,XX. Here's your weekly
card (the code strip wears much faster than on my dads).
He holds the door for me when i leave.

Where would OPEC be without X00.000 carb landies puttering about the
globe?. Add the oil consumption (mine runs on two stroke fuel).

I even got invitet to the christmas party at Shell Oil Inc.
headquarters in New York.

But of course, if your are referrring to the drivers economy....

Got an answer from A. Bekker, DL-RK classic sect. chairman.

He claims that a present standard Lucas lens will fit. Available in
Dk for about DKK 8.00 (USD 1.50).

In a past issue of LRW, there was an article on a 90 that was used in a JB
movie. The article stated that some LR's were fitted with fake body panels
to make them look like Eastern Bloc vehicles for the movie....don't know if
that is what you saw, but it might have been.

This past summer I did a ring and valve job and suspected that maybe I

one simply got loose. I just got back from putting the oil pan back on
after retourquing the same. Same noise.

I've been told that in other car types this is a telltale sign of loose

What you've described sounds somewhat like a noise that I have. Mine occurs at
all temps, though.

That's distressing to me, as I was hoping it would be the rod bearings, which
seem to be the easiest to repair of the possibilities you suggest.
I'm still going to pull the pan over the holiday break, and hope for the best,
though.

Those possibilities hadn't ben mentioned to me...

Please don't email him direct, as I, too, am *very* much interested in any
suggestions.

Steve, when you had the pan off did you take any caps off to check the
state of the bearings. If you didn't You are likely to become an
experienced pan puller I am afraid that the rod bearings and likely the
mains too are terminal.

Seriously, I'm a Ford fan, but by sheer numbers more reliable miles have
been put on the least common of modern chevy engines than by all
Land-Rovers, everywhere, combined. It's really just a matter of
production quantities. Any properly built, well maintained engine will
get you there and back. Availability of inexpensive replacement and
repair parts make the Chevy engines, I think, a practical retrofit to a
Landie which must be a daily driver. I can purchase an entire rebuild
kit, including pistons, cam, lifters, gaskets, etc. for around 200 bucks
for a Chevy four. Last time I looked at a RN catalog the same Genuine
parts cost over a grand. You really have to decide whether originality
or function are more important to you.

Wonder which of the seven sexes this will offend?

Eric;

Congratulations on finding an 80". According to my SI birthday papers it was
born on 28 June 1951 and it's serial number is 16136629. The sheet has 24
numbers on it that date from late June and early July 1951. Yours was probably
born around late May or early June. Strangely the numbers run sequentially, but
the born on dates start at 2 Jul 1951 at the top of the page and end with 2 Jul
at the bottom of the page. In between are dates in late June (22-27-26-28),
then four numbers dated 3-2 JUL, then back to four on June 22. Shipping dates
also vary from 27 JUN to 31 JUL.

Yes. The "last"* US NAS D90s are/were 300 identical Willow Green '97
Station wagons with teh diamond plate and full roof rack and automatic like
the other '97 D90s. The San Jose dealer was tacking on a $2500 surcharge for
it's rarity.

On a side note I have just heard that LR is importing 600 NAS D90s
to Japan. The VIN from one that was just sent to me indicated that they were
built after these Willow Green ones.

* For each batch after the first D110s, LRNA has claimed that each batch was
going to be the last. I'll believe a batch is the last when they don't
  import any for 5 years...

In my 97 D90 I have this same extremely high pitch squeak under my
passenger seat. It is annoying enough to want to loosen my fillings. The
funny thing is that when somebody is in the seat or the seat bottom is
removed, the squeak is gone. I'll try the shim.

This list is great. I seem to find help even when I'm not looking for it.
