Pictures of the Mid-Atlantic Rally at Penlan, Virginia, can be found on
Baby's web page:

http://home.dmv.com/~eheite/penlan97/0penlanbanner.html

These pictures were taken on Saturday, before the worst of the rowdiness
began, so most of the machines are relatively clean, neat and aligned.
Click on the word "forward" to see the next picture, until you reach that
over-decorated taveller decked out in what Boss Lady described as
"testosterone poisoning." Interesting. She uses that term to describe
everything related to Land Rovers.

Does anyone know if the series 3 truck cab will fit a series 1. Is the
width the same, I know that the corners are rounded but I could fill them.
Thanks in advance

Subject: Parts for sale, the whole story

I failed to mention in my previous post about parts for sale a few key points:

The sale is being generated because my wife and I are going to South
Africa, with our truck, for the 50th Anniversary celebration in March
through May of 1998. We are trying to raise funds for all the necessary
gear, travel, etc. Now don't go buying my sale items out of pity! I offer
the rationale for the sale so you won't think me an ogre for not just
giving the stuff away.

Secondly, I'm not on the rro list nor the lro list. Please e-mail directly,
or call 415-282-5500, or fax 415-282-5005.

Thanks to all for putting up with this revised post.

Rovers North price is $127, Britpac price is $158. My asking price is $95.00

Interior Bulkhead Tyre Mount(Items 302933,302934,330208, plus nuts and bolts)

Subject: Weber carb linkage parts needed

I recently lost the little threaded bolt that holds the chock cable on to
the anchor bracket of my one barrel (34 ICH) Weber carb. While trying to
fit a different into the attachment on the anchor bracket, I naturally
bunged the thing up, snapping the bolt off in the process (More muscle than
brains, what can I say?).

At any rate, I need a new anchor bracket, or a used one for that matter.
Does anyone on the list have an old Weber I get the part off of? BTW, the
Weber resides in a LHD SIII. I don't know if the anchor bracket for a Weber
in a RHD is any different...

If you don't have an old Weber, the next best thing is a name and address of
someone/some business where i could order a new anchor bracket. One barrel
Webers aren't all that common out here in eastern Washington State, so
haven't been able to find a local dealer.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I saw the thread a few days ago about oil leaking around the input shaft if
parked on a steep hill. I have a slightly different symptom. If I park with
the front end lower, I leak a lot of gear oil (1/2 pint over night). If I'm
parked level or with the front end slightly up, no leaking. Seems like it's
not the same issue as the input shaft since the front end only needs to be 1
or 2 inches lower than the backend but I can't figure out where it's leaking
from. Ideas?

Nate

Elementary my dear Nate... you have a SIIA*

It's leaking from the input shaft which does not (in the IIA) have a true
oil seal. The input shaft has a spiral cut groove that drives oil back when the
shaft
is rotating .. when it's not and if the vehicle is parked facing downhill ...
well,
then you get exactly what you describe. The only cure is not to park facing
downhill.

cheers,

Jeremy

* or alternatively you own a SIII with a completely buggered primary input seal.

John ; I called local Volks dealer awhile back because of a tip on their
carbs, but fellow in Parts acted like I had two mouths, said carbs won't
be found there anymore, not for a long time, maybe on some old models,
but not what comes through their bays now at any rate. Nick by the way
has tried putting his carb on Millie, only to have broken the bakelite
carb piece. I gonna have to buy them by the box I guess!

My heater motor used to squeal when first using it, especially when cold.
Often I would stop it and restart it to make it stop the racket. Well,
tonight I took the little motor apart, cleaned and greased the end bearings
taking care of all the tiny bits and all. Really a very nice little motor
(very easy job).
What a world of difference this made...very smooth and quiet as well as more
output. 2 hours of work and a long nagging problem is gone...at least for a
while. John Cooper 1969 11a

Two points about the ARC regulations on roll-cages:
    1) The only people who are *required* to follow them are people in
ARC events (and there ain't too many of them outside the UK)
    2) There is a slight problem, in that the ARC roll-cage regs contradict
the RACMSA regs -- which they shouldn't do...

As to putting the the roll cage regs on the web: if someone can get me the
pictures in an electronic format, I'll add them the the rest of the ARC
regs...

Sorry, no photos, but you are most likely thinking of the Honourable
Artillery Company, a TA unit dating from the Henry VIII era, which
performs some ceremonial duties around London, including firing Royal
Salutes with 25-pounders at the Tower. (Let me rephrase that; they
don't shoot the Tower...)

Their Lightweights are so clean you can't help but look twice. They
are bronze green (polished to a mirror finish) with galvanised trim,
chrome bumpers, white seats (including rear jump seats), white wheel
covers, white hubs and lug nuts, and the HAC crest on the doors.
