Before I make an offer, a few questions for the list:

What parts would I need to convert it into a Dormobile-type camper?
How easy would it be to put Free Wheel Hubs on it?
Anyone have the paint code for Camel Trophy Sand-Glow Yellow?

In total jest,

Subject: Mainshaft Removal
Date: Thu, 28 Aug 1997 08:15:25 -0700

I'm in the process of dismantling my broken gearbox ('59 sii 88 - pre
suffix transmission).

First the layshaft didn't want to come out - the front layshaft bearing had
disintegrate and the center of the bearing was seized onto the end of the
layshaft. I finally got that apart (bigger hammer!), but now I'm having
problems removing the mainshaft from the transmission case. I've removed
the "special" nut from the rear of the mainshaft as recommended in the
workshop manual. The manual then says to drive the shaft out from the rear
with soft mallet. Well I pounded on the thing for about an hour last night
without any success.

Have others had problems removing the mainshaft? Any tricks? Or should I
just take it to a machine shop and have it pressed out?

Thanks,

Jim

It looks like I'm going to have spring for a front suspension rebuild.
Don't know whether to go for 11 leaf springs and hd shocks or stick with
regular. I don't have a winch but may some day.
1. Want to know just how much stiffer the 11 leaf springs are over the 9
leaf and is the ride livable without additional weight on the front??
2. Is the height of the suspension changed and as a result, do you get more
suspension travel??
3. Any other unforseen benefits/penalties to going with the 11 leaf springs.

Tell me about it... I usually have extreme difficulty finding vague
intelligence behind the wheel of my 110.
The fact that it is at a dealership right now only reinforces the statement.

All,

I have moved from my work address to:

hillman@bigpond.com (au not required as the address is registered in
the USA).

Please direct all email there. I've unsubscribed CSO -Digest LRO and
AU-LRO from this work address.

I'll still see email addressed here but whilst I'm on leave from work I
won't be checking this mail box as often.

You see, even though I'm on leave, work is still sending me mail to read
and respond to. Now Elisabeth is home from hospital after 4 weeks
holidaying there, I can do without it so if I don't read it....

Regards,

Ron Beckett

I've always been lead to believe that for sheer ability to carry weight
leaf is better than spring. However without the extra weight to settle
things down on road you may find it tricky at the higher speeds. I've
got a relatively modern Landy with standard springs and it sticks to the
road very well. Someone else I work with has leaf suspension and her
husband calls it the tumble dryer! She finds it excellent for towing of
course.

Andy.
