Subject: Land Rover Discovery logo

Hello,

I just had some livery done on my Land Rover recently. I'd like to
go over the 'Discovery' bit on the side with another colour (so that
the colours don't clash so much) - it's a sort of handwritten script
with a line running either side... I'm sure you know the sort of
thing I mean.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had the artwork for this logo on
disk that they could send me as the signmaker needs an original of
sorts to cut it from vinyl.

If so, I would be *very* grateful if you could email it to me.

Many thanks,

Paul

Subject: re.fuel tank replacement

Hi Chris

When I last replaced an under seat type fuel tank the replacement unit had a
double skin
at the bottom with a hole in the centre of the outer skin allowing acces to
the drain plug.
Trouble was that there was no paint or other rust protection between the two
skins. Now as my old tank had rusted through in exactly this area I was not
happy. To help increase the life of the new tank I firstly sealed all around
the second skin with body filler, then with the tank upside down poured warm
Wax Oil into the void via the hole around the drain plug. after the Wax Oil
had set I then filled around the drain plug with body filler.
This was twelve years ago and alough I no longer own the LR I do still meet
the present owner and he has never complained about a rusty tank, next time I
see him I will take a look to see how it is doing.

Subject: Back on the road

Hi all,

After building the slave cylinder and replacing the front hub oil seals and
brakeshoes, I'm up and running again. Some observations:

1. When doing the oil seals it is VERY important to follow the repair
manual's advice and keep the seal level with the edge of the hub AND make
sure it is even all the way around. In my case, this caused premature
failure. If the seal is not even, it wears back and forth against the
distance piece as the wheel rotates, and leads to premature failure.

2. If the slave cylinder needs a rebuild/replacement, it is easiest to do
(on a IIa) by taking the floor and tunnel panels out first.

3. As is the dictum, you will almost always be better off doing the job
yourself. In my case, I ended up redoing certain jobs again (a year later)
after they were done at the mechanics. I'm not finding fault, but I know how
the car goes together better than he does and sometimes the fine points get
missed (see Item 1).

Shaun,

Any freight forwarder can do it for you. It's just a matter of how much
you're willing to pay, and your location is also a factor on shipping
charges. (example: from Birmingham, to Port Hueneme California, I've had
quotes of about $1275.00)

Most important - make sure that the truck you import, complies with U.S.
specs for the year/model. Otherwise, you could end up paying to have it sent
back!

Subject: Spin-on oil filter adapter?

I know this has been discussed at length before, but where can I get a
spin-on oil filter adapter for my IIA? I have the short can currently, if
that makes a difference. Also, what was the original tire size for the
15" wheeled Rovers?

Thanks,

David

... does anyone know a guy called roddy who went in his camel 110 to
south africa, leaving england august/september 1996.
I would be happy to get a contact address (email, phone or anything).
We met him on the way (in greece) but failed to meet him again later.
In arusha then we met people who had traveled with him for a while.
We are in south africa now.

Okay fair enough. I "guessed" that other bits of Landy were used, but new some
bits were in common with the early Rangies.

when I replaced my left tank, I was still a wet-behind-the-ears landy owner.
I didn't do the above. Although I've tried waxoyling it insitu, it isn't the
same. I've learnt my lesson already!
The above sounds a good way to proceed - I'll remember it for next time.
