For what its worth, I saw an article in the 4 July Baltimore (MD) Sun.

"For the first time, shippers have a consoldiation service that moves cargo
directly between Britain and Baltimore without stopping at other ports. The
service was launched recently by Samuel Shapiro and Co., a Baltimore based
freight forwarder and customs broker that acts as a travel agent for cargo.
Sailing from Liverpool (LR Supermarket???) every Saturday and arriving in
Baltimore 13 days later, the service cuts transit times by two to three
days." "...used by shippers who need to move goods, but don't have enough to
fill an entire 20 or 40 foot container..." "...consolidated shippers, such
as Shapiro, which puts together cargo from different shippers bound for the
same destination and secures a better rate from the steamship line."

Haven't checked them out yet. Maybe someone in the area (Quintin???) has
dealt with them, or knows someone who has.

At least this would get the cargo into the US cheaper than FEDEX, UPS, or
dealing with a bulk shipper.

I mentioned this catalog the other day and lo and behold one arrives in the
mail. Some items of interest to the Lists might be:
H7-17676 British Military Water Container......$9.97 (black, 5 gal.,marked
"WATER")
H7-23737 Used British J**p Shovel....$9.97
H7-23738 Used British J**p Pick.......$14.97 Both for $ 19.97. These
come either in OD or natural, no choice it says. These items have been
discussed previously. I bought the same from US Calvary last year. They
appeared to have been removed from MOD vehicles (j**p indeed!) at some point.
Again the usual disclaimers apply. The catalog is #23730. Couldnt find the
catalog with the jerry cans tho'. My wife has a habit of throwing these
things away before I can waste too much of the childrens college funds. The
horse has been out of the barn since I've owned a Land Rover, though :>) .
Their number is 1-800-888-3006 Cheers. Andy Blackley

I don't know about the D90's, do they still use the 25D distributor?
It's a piece of cake to put in (as easy as changing points and
condenser) and costs $100.

I second that. It would be nice if it was the center of the country for
driving purposes. I guess there is no avoiding crossing the Rockies
which will certainly add time to people coming from the west. There are
plenty of ski slopes in Colo, come to think of it, there is even one
here in Nebraska believe it or not. The middle of nowhere as I like to
call it.

And I thought it was a unit, approx. 240 meths to the Guilder, no? :-)

Guys...(and Gals)

ANY freight forwarder, can send "freight consolidations" to any point on
Earth! Doesn't matter if it's non-stop, or not. The problem with
consolidations, is that sometimes, the forwarder does not load the entire
shipment into one container (at least, this is a BIG problem in the airline
business), and things tend to get left behind.

Don't go with the first company you find - DEFINATELY look around, and get
prices from different companies, and it doesn't matter how big, or how small
the forwarder is, with regards to how good they are, or how much they suck! I
deal with big companies that suck, and small companies that suck.

Also, when a shipment is send as a consol, there are usually breakdown fees,
and house-waybill fees - usually an additional $20.00 each in the airline
industry, but MAY be less if going with ocean freight.

So, while UPS is good with getting the smaller boxes here, ocean freight
would be the way to go, when you order a new tropical roof for a 109.

Whats the collective wisdom on how best to remove the nuts that secure the
rear driveshaft flange to the transmission brake? I tried a socket and
spanner, but the u-joint interfered with both. I was able to undo mine only
because they were barely fingertight, and appeared ready to fall off. I
won't be so fortunate next time.

Thanks,

Thanks to everybody who replied. On the S I, these are definitely captive
bolts. To remove them, I would have to partially strip the transfer box (no
way!). I found out by careful study of the studs/bolts, and mainly by
finding the right picture in the parts catalogue. I had to grind three of
the four nuts in the back off, btw, while the front nuts came off much too
easy. Removed the rear axle today, which is not easy without a helper and
without an engine crane. Now I have to clean it and paint it - that should
be a lot of fun ;>).

In Germany you can still get them but the prices get higher an higher. The
problem is, the old PAPs are from WW2 and have a special aluminiumcompound.
You can also get new ones, but they are not so good.
If you are interested, I can look for email adresses from german expedition
suppliers, where you can get them. A friend of mine has a few for sale too,
but they have different lengths (original they are 3m long, usually they
are cut in two halfs), so his price is per centimeters.

If you buy some PAPs, pay attention there are two different hole patterns
available (Important if you want to store them).

Hope this helps,

Thorsten

We had gotten a notice from the post office the other day that a parcel was
at the post office to be picked up. Not knowing what it was, I went up
there and got it. When I looked at the return address, it said The SG. I
made the presumption that it was something Steve had ordered from Safari
Gard. As it turned out, it was Jerrycans from Sportsman Guide. :-)

Brian,
| Please send me the below mentioned e-mail address.
Try http://www.daerr.de/ . They are a well sorted expedition
outfitter here in Munich. For my taste they are a bit expensive,
but asking is free, as we say here.

Lauche und Maas http://www.lauche-maas.com/ in Munich used to carry
PAPs, too, but I don't know if they still do. May be worth a try.
They are more a trecking gear shop than a vehical outfitter, although
they are said to be good.

Usual disclaimers. Didn't deal with any of them, nor get paid by them.

BTW. if you have problems with their German www-pages just ask me.
(Sandladders/PAPs = Sandbleche for the first start).

Hope this helps,
