Actually, a black instrument panel denotes the beginning of the end. First covering up for shoddy wiring and future electrical fires when they sucuumbed to that fad of earthing things negatively. It was then a repressed haterid for the customer by changing the dash from safe, black painted steel, to unsafe, flamable plastic. The eventual switch to coil suspension was to help lull you to sleep by offering comfort while driving. ------------------------------[ <- Message 4 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970803 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

The suffix A started with the IIA, so if there is no letter it might well be the original box, or an early one anyway. No idea what the rebuilding possibilities are, sorry to say. Since I never leave it parked alone, the installation of locks has never been a priority. But today I noticed for the first time in two years that there are internal levers that allow one to lock the doors from the inside. Apart from helping to stop the doors fly open when cornering I can't see much point in them. Are they part of what would be some sort of aftersale bolt-on external lock tumbler? Not half an hour ago I managed to cross thread and strip a brake bleed nipple. Now I've got fluid trickling down the driveway into the gutter. This means of course that when I do finally get a new cylinder unit in I'm going to have to screw around all over again bleeding the stupid CB cylinder. Dumb curse! From: "KMCO" <KMCO@KEAR.TDS.NET> Subject: coolant loss Date: Sat, 2 Aug 1997 22:29:32 -0400 HELP! Here's the problem. LR in question is a SIII with 2.25 gas engine. I'm loosing about a half gallon of coolant every 200 - 300 miles. I've checked all connections, hoses, etc. No apparent leak in the radiator and the exhaust doesn't smell of anti-freeze. No sign of water in the oil. Where is it going??? When the engine is cold I notice a thick oily film on the top of the coolant in the radiator. Any ideas? All help appreciated. In North America 5.5x16 rims now are sold as part number NRC7578 and run LT235/85R16 tires, the closest metric equivalent to 7.5x16's. Before the introduction of 5.5" wide rims, the standard rim was 5x16, which may well be the odd rim you have. Where are you located at in Canada? If the S II setup is anything like the later S I system, there would have been an option to have a lock at the driver's door, which of course is always the right-hand door since lhd vehicles are aberrations; in order to secure the vehicle, the driver would snap the little levers on the other doors shut from the inside and then get out and lock the one lock provided. (On Station Wagons, the rear door has its own lock). Locking a Series Land-Rover is mostly a symbolical act, though.
