>>I was wondering if anyone has ever done business with them or tried to

i sent away for information from them, got a pretty timely response, and a
simple letter stating the different levels of preperation that were
available, with prices in the 12-15K dollar range for 88's after
importation. At the bottom a clever disclaimer stating "these trucks were
never meant for daily or highway driving". Baloney I say...
Never did do any biz with em though, but they seemed nice enough on the
phone. It would cost you less to go over there yourself and buy and ship a
beater, and then restore it yourself. Plus you'll know exactly what
condition its in and there will be no surprises other than a snapped axle
or two...

Good luck

Sunday, Apr 13 sound good to me. As for a location, I would prefer West
Potomac Park since it's only about 5 minutes from home.

The new Alexandria Land Rover Centre also sounds like an interesting option.
Regardless of where we meet, I would be interested in attending their grand
opening.

They are both 16 inch, but the standard 109 rims are wider than the 88
rims.
I think the 88 inch rims are 16x5j and the 109's are 16x5.5j. But I could
be wrong
as I use my memory now. Not as far as good as a manual or parts-cataloque.

Hi all!
The "Pig" will soon have 'er new powerhouse (;-), picking up the head
today. Got 4 Stelite exhaust valves and noticed the keepers are the 2
groove style, while the keepers for the new inlet valves are the one
groove style. Can I mix these like this?, or should I try find inlets
with the one groove? And while I'm at it, should I bother putting new

In the April AUTOMOBILE, the spin was that LRNA specifically declined
having the CB40 targeted for the US market. The feeling was, with the
Discovery selling so briskly, the baby LandRover would only steal sales
from the Discovery. From the short article, LRNA apparently are still in
need of convincing, although it is now pretty clear that the
Free/Highlander is coming to the US at some point.

I'm not sure you are talking wiper or wiper motor when you say
"move some snow". Trico makes a universal length wiper arm that
fits. Personally I prefer the blades and arms off MGBs. The arms
screw rather than press on and they also will pivot to stand out of
the way when cleaning and squeegeeing the glass. Only problem is
that all MGBs arms are lefts...you must drill out the rivit, slightly
shorten and flip the arm to make a right arm.
Maybe you should just take the snow shovel with you.........

There is a difference between LWB & SWB rims. The LWB rim is 1/2 inch wider to
take the 750-16 tyre. If you are going to fit 205-16 tyres (Range Rover) on a
SWB it is better to use LWB rims but having said that ,my first set of 205-16

Hi,

Though you might like to hear about the Land Rover that nobody
in the US will never see in the name of clean air and safety (ie DOT and
EPA regs). I was at my local surplus LR dealer today and one of the
mechanics there told me about a 109 that they just receved from the Dutch
army. He said its practically new and I have to see it. I assumed that it
would be above average but nothing really THAT special. We took a walk
into the yard and what I saw I absolutly could not beleive!! He had,
sitting there, a 1977 109 diesel, NEW engine, NEW front axle, NEW frame,
NEW transmission, NEW springs, ETC, ETC, ETC. Other than the paint, this
vehicle could've rolled off the production line yesterday!!! Now for the
price, I hope everybody is sitting down and has a box of kleenex handy
;-) , they're asking 9000 dfl (+/- 4500$us) for it!!!!!!!! This 109 is
perfect in every way! I could've cried! I'm still wracking my brain and
burning up the telephone lines to EPA and DOT for a way to get it into
the US but as you know "rules are rules and we only enfoce them". Oh
well, I guess I can look at it this way, I've done my part for "clean air
and safety" in the US by not importing this gem (NOT!!) ;-((((((((

Please excuse me now as I'm going to go into my bedroom and cry ;-)))

I am after the above two items (second hand) as I've recently moved on
up to 750 x 16 SAT's and as a consequence I've no idea how fast I'm

impression of a ground anchor if I don't get it sorted! If anyone in the

With a little practice, you should be able to tell your speed pretty
accurately by the scream of those SATs. But of course, I'm forgetting,
nowadays one would be wearing hearing protection.

While there may not be many of us, I am proud to admit that I have owned
four Volvos, two of which I still have: a '63 PV544 Sport (complete with
racing cam, oil cooler, header and free flow exhaust) and an '87 240DL.
And for what it's worth, the 544 still has its original SUs and I adore
them; with Webers the car loses all its character. The SUs have no
silencing so the rush of the air being sucked into the engine is very
audible and it's a sound that most old Volvo fans refuse to live without.
The 240 is the daily driver and as tough as nails. I've also owned another
240 (a '76 244DL) and a 122S (1968 Wagon). Old Volvos were very sporting
and are tremendous fun to drive even in comparison to modern cars. It's
hard to believe that the 544 and the 240 were made by the same company so
different is their personalities. The common thread is their toughness and
solidity. I guess that's what makes me own them in addition to a
Land-Rover.

The original SII/IIA rear step was centered. It mounted to two "hinge
halfs" bolted to the bottom of the crossmember. Sometime between '64 and
'68 a revised rear step was introduced which was offset to the left. It
mounted to a bracket which hangs from the crossmember.

SIIs (at least some) had rectangular steps instead of the oblong still
used later. If anyone has a short (11 1/2") rectangular step, I could
use it on our SII SW.

Automotive News reported he said the Freelander would not be
economically viable to compete in North America.

There are some signficant differences between US and European
requirements and expectations in a number of areas including emissions
and crashworthiness. One is not better or worse, just different. The US
Corporate Average Fuel Economy law and it's somewhat arbitrary criteria
for what constitutes a truck compared to a car can impact what is sold
in the US. So the CB40 may not be viable due to regulations, not
customer preferences. The needed redesign, tooling and validation could
amount to a lot of money.

Greenbelt is very close to me, but either location is OK.

I actually went to LR Alexandria today. Nice place, nice people,
everyone there is very enthusiastic about the product. What blew me
away was that they had about 30 back issues of LRO!

Amazing: Part of the exchange Dixon and I had on the LRO list last fall
about LRO and LRW magazines is quoted in the "Club News" section of LRW,
April issue. They did print the uncomplementary parts as well. No e-mail
to me since I've switched ISPs. Looks like somebody is reading this.

Careful reading of LRW reveals that a Mike Rogers forwards Internet
tidbits to LRW, rather than LRW reading this.

Err... My S3 has pivoting arms that screw onto the drive shaft. They're
original items too.

It is 'Reflective', so that the vehicle appears less obvious when viewed
through IR glasses. Grass and plants appear bright white, as they reflect IR,
whereas vehicles absorb a fair amount, and therefore appear darker.

If you want to get PSP in the UK, L.W.Vass in Bedford have tons (literally).
I bought a 10ft length of nearly new PSP last winter, for 21 ukp.
Their number is in LROi.
Incidentally, I would recommend them to anybody buying a second hand Landy,
having seen their workshops and the work they do - first class refurbishments.

Hope this helps...

I recently had cause to return a BFG Trac Edge tyre to a dealer. It had
split all around the rim on the inside and was only noticed when I went
for the annual MOT inspection. I had these tyres (235x85x16) fitted to my
110 only last summer and have run about 7000 miles on them, needles to
say I was a bit miffed when I realised I now had a useless tyre so soon
after paying 100quid for it.

The dealer was very helpful but said that BFG had recently been bought
out and was now part of Michelin and because f this he held out little
help of me getting a refund or replacement tyre. He said that BFG had a
very good customer relations record but Michelin did not seem to believe
that customer relations was important at all and he had NEVER had a
favourable response to a customers complaint.

The dealer offered me a used tyre as an emergency spare whilst he sent
the defective Trac Edge back for evaluation by Michelin or he would fit a
new tyre, which I pay for, and then he would refund the money if Michelin
agreed that the tyre was faulty. I figured that I would need a new tyre
whatever the outcome so I bought a new one and now I just hope I will get
the money back. (Also he said that it was not certain whether I would get
the duff one back either, not that its any good I just hate the thought
of giving them the evidence and not seeing it again even if they say its
not their fault - hardly an impartial adjudication is it)

I'll let you know the outcome.
