Tim Harincar writes, "xfor 'distribution to the US dealer network'. Does this
place still exist (yeah rightx)?"
Enough of the network existed in the mid 80s, on paper anyway, that the
powers that be on Lode lane decided to rebadge the Rover 800 as the Sterling
to avoid any ex dealers coming out of the woodwork to claim a franchise, as
well as because poor service and parts support had sullied the Rover name in
the minds of the American public. I have a friend in Charleston who was one
of the early dealers. He and his dad would go down to Jacksonville to get
theirs. I'll ask Don next time I see himx Cheers! John Dillingham Woodstock,

I found this web site from a search on "auto emissions" and it is for
Canada's program like AirCare, and the like. Also: vehicle scrappage!

 LROA Members,

This Sunday's meeting, March 31, 1996 at 11 AM will be at Cole European,
the Land Rover dealership at 2103 North Main Street in Walnut Creek. The
plan is to rally there and move on to a coffee shop in the neighborhood
or elsewhere, depending on the number of members that show.

On the agenda is the offer and review of a Business Plan and the LROA
Organizational Outline for the Bylaws. Both of these draft documents are
on a Web page at http://www.crl.com/~cs/lroa.html for your review and
comment. For various reasons, the Bylaws Committee has concluded that
LROA nonprofit incorporation in Nevada is the most practical and expedient
venue for the time being, and hopes that at least this portion of the
 Business Plan will be adopted.

We hope to see you there,

 Michael Carradine

:Dumb question time.
:Any reason you sent this announcement to just the west coast list and not
:to the main land Rover AND the main range Rover/Discovery mail lists????
:With the proposed wording on an HTML site you can ask for comments from the
:wired portion of the membership.

:Also, can we adapt something with a very small manority vote?????
:Just wondering since this is supposed to be a national org.

 Good points!

So far the new officers have essentially been charged with the responsibilty
of maintaining and reorganizing the new LROA. In several meetings the
consensus was to direct the Bylaw Committee to incorporate the LROA and
provide a structure for all members to participate in LROA activities. To
expedite this and get the LROA back into the "LR's are fun" business, we
recommend nonprofit Nevada incorporation at this time.

To codify and improve the organizational structure of the existing LROA, a
draft outline for Bylaws has been prepared based in part on the model of
the California Association of 4-WD Clubs Inc. (CA4WD). CA4WD and LROA are
associations of clubs with regional divisions. In short, the LROA draft
Organizational Outline for Bylaws proposes that members form numerous local
clubs, each having a minumum of 4 members. These clubs are then organized
regionally to to hold rallies and events across the continent. We believe
that members will have their most meaningful enjoyment of Land Rovers and
comraderie at at the club and regional level, that's where all the fun is,
while still being part of a great continental association with its many
 benefits.

Taking the reorganization process step by step, the draft documents will
initially be reviewed by the officers and local members, as well those on
the net, and then put forward in the Aluminum Workhorse. Suggestions and
comments will then be integrated into final Bylaws and voted on by the
membership. The evolution and adoption of Bylaws is time consuming, and
can proceed quite independently of incorporation. In the mean time, many
of us are anxious to have our LROA involved in activities again, and for
that we hope to incorporate now. Soon thereafter we hope to have Bylaws
adopted and to test the election process by voting for regional and
 continental offices.

 Cheers,

 Michael Carradine

I have used a tent on the roof of my Land Rover. I started by building a
safari rack that was equiped with a plywood floor. I used a nylon pup
tent not unlike the one shown in the RN catalogue. I found it was just
right for the size of plywood I ended up with. I would probably try to
make something larger in the future. My friend had a GMC by Vantacy
Van. It had a tent built in that was part of a roof that was hinged on
one side and when folded out make an area about 8 feet square. It had
two legs down to the ground but really didn't need them for sleeping. It
just gave a feeling of some stability when you were up there. It went
out by some kind of crank system. My unit has abut a 6" rise around the
edge so you can't fall off the roof if you roll around. Dave VE4PN

Yes the bell housings will interchange but the 2.5L D injection pump will hang
up on the passenger side (of a LHD) engine frame mount. The frame mount must be cut off
and replaced with something that will fit the engine mount that comes with the
2.5L D. This also means that you will loose your batt and air cleaner stands,
this must be taken into account. Batt could go under the seat, I'm not sure
what others have done with the air cleaner. I guy out here in Calgary did this
convertion last year and he was very pleased, I belive he said his lightwieght
got around 25 miles to the gallon and could do 70m/h with this engine.

Good Luck Clinton.

Over the months I have seen a great deal of discussion about Air lockers on
this list. Has anyone ver had experience with other types of lockers that
are easier on the budget. I have heard some discussion of Detroit lockers; a
full time lock on the rear and limited slip on the front end.

Any experiences?

Detroit Lockers are purely mechanical. They are quite positive and accomplish
full lockup as the ARB units. Downside? Noisy. Especially around corners.
Doesn't absolutely, fully disengage. More wear faster. Not that much cheaper
than ARB if you factor in additional cost for True Trac type limited slip
front axle unit.

Not as much availability for LRs as ARB either.
