I didn't know that.

But then, what is the device on my firewall to which the battery power runs
and a bunch of other wires lead off?

It looks very much like the device on page 135 of the Haynes Manual, only
mine doesn't have a manual ignition contact.

Until I changed it a few years ago, my machine had always been positive ground.
