Picking on one thing, I know...

The carpetting issue has not bearing on the vehicles ability, or
    strength, in the rough.

In stock form, which is the basis of the question, the Range Rovers and
Discoverys are very competent vehicles off-road... Not as good as a
D90, but better than a D110, or any Leafer.

The main reason people perceive the "posher" vehicles as less competent
is that the drivers tend towards the over-cautious, and that affects
    the performance of the vehicle.

    Me? Drive? I've sold my 1980 109 and am rebuilding a '49 series I.
