Liu asks... >Do more mechanically savvy LRO's carry any carb parts in their spare parts >bag on offroad trips? A spare jet, nuts and bolts, etc.? What about fuel >pump parts, fuel line, etc.? - Well... letsee.. For normal local driving I have a spare distributer cap, roter, points and condenser. Spare spark plugs. Spare fuel sediment bowl. Spare fuel filter ( have an in-line filter between the pump and carb). Spare fan belt. Assorted nuts and bolts, a roll of wire and some electrical tape. I usually have a few extra light bulbs, too. If I'm making a trip I take along a spare fuel pump, spare distributer, spare carb and spare axel shafts. I also carry at least 1 qt of 90Wt and a couple of qts of engine oil. Now the fuel pump, dist and carb are all of questionable functionality - in fact the carb is a Zenith and my truck has a Rochester - but I figure they are better than nothing. The axel shafts are also used... I used to carry basically the same spares (except for axels) in my '71 VW camper and that worked out very well. The heat exchanger is about the size of two tin cans. The kit sells for $AUD295 and is available from John Twine (+612 533 2491) in Peakhurst NSW Australia. There'd be no reason you couldn't use the heat exchanger to heat up a water storage tank whilst you're driving along. Considering how cold my Landy runs when its idling this may be a good option. You can hear them but they are not loud. People seem to be getting about 40,000 miles or more on a combination of on & off road use. I have a set on my 109 and have been very happy with them. There are a number of people in my area who use BF Goodrich Trac edges and think they are the best tyre available for mixed on and off road use. They are quieter than mud terrains. The center treads have more rubber then mud terrains making them a better street tyre and have mud terrain like agressive outer treads. BF Goodrich all terrains are good road and dry off road tyres. My experience is that the treads fill up with mud or snow easily. I also had poor luck on gentle hills covered with damp grass.
