Hi,
The little can hooked to the hot side of the coil is a condenser put there
to help eliminate radio static, I've never seen one on a series rover yet
though.
In the past when a condenser in the distributor on my chevy went bad and
the car died, after I removed the cap and saw the wire blown out of it, I
moved the one on the coil over to the connection that goes to the
distributor. This replaced the bad one electrically and got me going.
