After going for a ride (and wobble) on the highway I
finally got into the front end of my Range Rover.
Preload? What preload? It didn't have no steenking
preload....
4 pounds one side, and the other wouldn't register on the
scale I used. I removed 2 bolts to free the top pin, then 2
to pull and remove the caliper. Per advice from a trusted
source (hi, Eric!) I set the preload to break at 12-14
pounds (spec is 7-14, but was told higher is better).
MUCH nicer....no more wobblies, even after going back over
the same ground that had set it off earlier in the day on
Saturday.
I did end up replacing the second tie-rod end - when I got
the wheel off on that side it was showing a wee bit of play
- nothing significant, but as I was in there I decided to
make it go away.
Total parts bill: 2 tie-rod ends, one stabilizer...and a
Rangie that drives like it's on rails.
