    Oh, wrong engagement.

    If you can't push the stick from high to low then it seems
    to me that your car is suffering from what a lot of Rangies
    and Discos did - insufficient low-range time. I'd lube the
    Hell out of the linkage and work it back and forth gently
    till you can get it to engage and disengage high and low.

    Diff centre lock is engaged by sliding the knob to the left
    and driving - the diff lock light will come on when the
    lock engages. At this point you are now driving a Series
    Rover - don't do this on dry pavement or your
    tyres/drivetrain will be unhappy.
