On page 68-69 of LRE Nov 2001 there is a picture of a white 101 FC that is
owned by Tim Race, who apparently works for LRE. I was looking through some
old mags and something caught my eye.
In the right lower picture it is plainly evident that this 101FC has 5 bolt
wheels, at least on the rear. The front axle is a mystery, due to the
footstep casting a shadow on the lugnuts.
From the lower left hand picture, which has the 101 in the foreground, the
lower profile of the differential appears to be rounded, which would
indicate an ENV differential. It's pretty hard to see though. Perhaps a 110
rear swapped in for the higher gears, but it looks like an ENV.
Why all this commotion about lugnuts? Here goes. I was under the impression
that the ENV was used solely on the IIBs and some 1 tons, which aren't
suitable for Valdez. The 101 axles however are, as they are sprung over
already and have extremely beefy birfields and differentials.
The question is the following - Ever seen another 101FC (Not a IIB) that had
5 lug wheels that were factory? I had heard that ENVs were used on 101s but
dismissed it as being a mix up between 109/110FCs and 101s.
If this is a factory animal (ENV/101 brakes/5 bolt hubs) I've found the
solution to my axle strength issue, while keeping the lug pattern I love.
Any leads would be appreciated.
