The problem with the weber occurs when it gets too hot under the bonnet. The
fuel in the float chamber starts to boil and the float sinks allowing excess
fuel to flow into the chamber raising the level and flooding the engine. The
sensitivity of the weber to high fuel pressures exaggerates the problem. If
you have an electric cooling fan it also creates more of a problem because
there isn't any airflow through the engine compartment when moving slowly or
stopped. I found that fitting an aluminium heat shield under the carb to
protect it from direct radiation from the exhaust manifold and a fuel return
line to the tank so fuel flows continually past the float chamber helped
resolve the problem. The carb casting has bosses that can be drilled and
tapped for extra connections so the return line can come from the carb where
it does the most good. You can also use a connection for a fuel pressure
gauge to check for line pressure (3psi max seems to suit the weber)
