I believe it depends on the head, as some didn't have as much spare
metal. Unfortunately I don't remember which ones those are, but I bet
a search of the archives will give you the answer. The most that can be
shaved off is 100 thou. That will bring a 7:1 head up to 8:1, and an
8:1 to 9:1. You could also have the block decked, shave some metal off
of the top face of the block. I don't know how much of it can come off,
but a machine shop could measure for you. You will also need shorter
pushrods, or will need to shim the rocker towers.
