This is a duplicate of the Land Rover tool, improved (it will do 4 sizes of
lacing). It's used to insert the center lacing in the rubber gasket which
holds the glass in. Lisle tools are available through NAPA I think, though I
got mine at Ram Auto, a local "real" auto parts store. The number may be
47000, but I do think it's only 4700. I looked for lacing tools all over the
internet, and it was a huge pain to locate one. I finally went in to Ram, and
it was on the shelf. I've been going there since the mid 60s, you'd think I'd
know enough by now. Lisle tool co. makes specialty tools which make a
particular job easier. Kind of like "Plymouth Fury widget nut remover" and so
on.
Essentially, one wraps the rubber gasket (seal)rubber onto the hole such
that the rubber, which has pretty much a "K" section at this point, is around
the hole, with the spline side out. then you drop the glass into the top, and
work the rubber onto the glass so that one opening of the "K" is filled with
aluminum top, and the other is filled with glass. Then one jams the spline
into the center vee of the "K", to lock everything up. You just slather
everything in the groove with hand lotion, insert one end of the spline into
the groove, and pull the tool along the groove. As you pull the tool along
the tool plows its way down the groove, and leaves the spline behind it in
the hole.
let me know if you need more.
