    Use of the heat gun produces a lot of nasty fumes when removing that black
    gunk. Aircraft stripper does work. The easiest thing I have found is the
    use of mineral spritis. It's cheap and not the nastiest stuff to work with.
    Of course, you'll want plenty of ventilation but you'd want that with the
    stripper or heat gun anyway.
