    1. Seal:

    Just pull it out - it has metal bits in it that won't do much with a
    solvent. Definitely do yourself a favor and replace the seal mudshield
    cover rivets with tapped-in screws - when the seal goes you'll thank
    yourself.

    2. No pad? Check the oil pan - it's likely down there because of backed-off
    fittings. This is a very bad thing...
