    The factory tank has a second bottom plate for extra strength. Of course
    rust likes to start at seams along the extra plate too.

    The common aftermarket fuel tank ( seam around the side at the middle,
    about half the price as the genuine artical) does not have a second
    protective plate.

    I don't remember anyone mentioning holing an aftermarket tank.
