From: AKBLACKLEY@aol.com Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 11:30:49 -0400 (EDT) Subject: TIRES Dave: I actaully cant help you on the Trac Edge, but I recently put 225/85-16 Dunlop Radial Rover RTs on my truck. They look very similar to Trac Edge. ie heavy lugs on the outer edges, closer tread inside. They are sold as a "commercial" grade tire, rather than standard SUV fare. I paid $535 for four, mounted, balanced, taxes etc at the local discount tire store. I really like them. They are as quiet as the old 244 M+S, handle as well, and should be much better in the muck. Havent had a chance for seroius off roading yet. PS I found your posting on the Majors "Hourly Update" which in now a week old. The LRO list appears to down for a while. Anyone else out there (on the LRO list) seen the Major lately? Cheers. I live in Oklahoma, but have heard that Southwest Rover in San Antonio, Texas has good-quality, reasonably-priced Rovers - any thoughts on this? As this is my first Land Rover, is there anything I need to look out for? I appreciate any help this list might offer. I'm in Nova Scotia Canada but will travel for a good deal. I'm willing to do a "frame up" but would like to be able to drive it home. Date: Tue, 15 Jul 1997 00:17:09 +0200 From: Jan Schokker <janjan@xs4all.nl> Subject: Why can't I bleed my clutch? Hello all, During my holiday in France two weeks ago clutch fluid started dripping from the pedal onto the floor. It was no big deal. We only had to top it up once (and it was the only thing going wrong on a 3500 km trip, so moral didn't suffer). Two days ago I put some new seals in the clutch master-cilinder. It was no wonder why the thing was leaking. I found sand in the reservoir! Everything went like it should, but some fluid leaked out of the tube going up from the cilinder when I had things apart. So I guess that leaves me with air in the uppermost part of the system, and whatever I try to bleed it, nothing works. I tried slow pumping, fast pumping with and without closing the valve on the return-stroke. I even used an injector to push fluid up from the bleedvalve. I did manage to get fluid in from the bottom, but the sponginess didn't go away. Half the pedal troke is pumping air. Please tell me, what is the trick, besides laying the rover on its right side? Thanks for any input. Jan Series III 109 LHD ------------------------------[ <- Message 8 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970714 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

The last 109 I had I sold to a fellow in Halifax. I do have a 109 military frame in lovely shape that awaits the body to be put on. It's the last one around. Let me know where you are and maybe I can be of some help. Phone # would be great! The base for the weekend's activities will be Bangor, Maine. Please find a schedule of events below. Saturday: Leaving from Bangor at 08:30 from in front of the Paul Bunyon statue downtown, we will be exploring some old logging roads and trails in Township 39 MD. This is an unorganized township northeast of Old Town and about 45 minutes from Bangor. The off-road trails will be non-damaging if driven with care, and participation in the event is at your own personal risk, and risk to your property. Proof of current inspection and insurance will be required. We adhere to the principles of responsible off-road use as outlined by the Tread Lightly organization. After off-roading, we will meet to have a barbeque lunch at Brandy Pond. Folks can choose to off-road in the afternoon, or head back into town for shopping, etc. Saturday night, we'll be gathering for dinner at the Sea Dog Brewery restaurant in Bangor for dinner at 19:00. Sunday, 10:00A.M.-15:30: This will be a static display day at the Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor. This wonderful museum has a large collection of snow removal equipment, trains, fire, and military vehicles. There will be time to browse the museum, as well as make new acquaintances! Lodging: There are a variety of hotels, motels, and campgrounds in the Bangor area. The enclosed Bangor Area Chamber of Commerce publication contains phone numbers for most providers of lodging in the area. Please see our web site at http://www.agate.net/~rovah/ for links to Bangor area lodging and attractions. Cost: Lunch on Saturday is either the barbeque($5 for members, $7 for non-members) or bring your own. There is no fee for any other activities over the weekend. Safety: We recommend that those participating in the off-road event on Saturday have at least basic self-recovery equipment. There is a Air National Guard Medivac site in T39 near our area of activity in case of severe medical emergency. Vehicles should be checked prior to entering the woods. Please feel free to contact me at 207-947-2114 with any questions. Cheers!
