Date: Thu, 23 Mar 95 08:08:37 EST From: "Lapa, Hank" <hlapa@Zeus.signalcorp.com> Subject: Registration of "Grey" L-Rs All, A friend of mine here in the US has recently taken possession of a quasi-IIA 109 station wagon imported from the UK. He got it registered OK (he lives in one of those easy states), but upon reading the little metal data plate in the cockpit has discovered that the plate (and hence the veh. no.) are from an 88. It seems that in his present locality, if he simply had a 109 data plate, he could reregister, preventing difficulties if he or his wife get transferred by Uncle Sam to another jurisdiction. Is this reasonable? Any spare IIA 109 plates out there? Is the vehicle's true identity stamped in the frame somewhere, presuming the frame is original? He received the Brit tags with the car (one square & one long) -- can anyone match those numbers with the factory ID? I will pass the fruits of your collective wisdom to him; he is not up on the net. Thanks in advance. Hank ------------------------------[ <- Message 2 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 950324 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

I live in Cornwall (UK) and have come across a large quantity of second hand Land Rover spares, masses of differentials, but just about everything else as well, bodies, engines, gearboxes etc. If anyone in foreign parts may be interested in an export deal, then please let me know. These are not my spares, and of course anything that may result is dependant on the owner being willing to sell (I don't see why not) and someone being able to arrange transport. I am not an import/export agent or anything, just trying to help out the 4WD community, and I hate seing things go to waste. The chap told me that he sent a load of diffs to the tip just because the casings were rusty and he couldn't afford the time to clean them up. I am sure someone somewhere in the world would like these and be willing to offer him something he couldn't refuse. He is only interested in 2002 talk, so he uses his script to extract only those posts that contain "02". Oh, No! Not the BEER issue again... OK, look.. I have it on good authority that (in Canada at least) that you don't get a cooler full of suds but the bottle do wind up empty... For a number of reasons... (1-Dixon, 2-Dale, 3-McDermott, etc, etc) No, actually what happens is this... The beer, packed in ice in a large cooler is placed where it can be accessed easily from the tailgate. The Land-Rover, packed with thirsty Canadians, is placed in a large mudhole where it can be proclaimed "well and truely stuck". The Canadians then get out of the Land-Rover and proceed to slosh about in the mud, which BTW can be anywhere from knee to navel deep. This of course, causes them to be thirstier and cries of "Have a beer, eh!" can be heard. The bottles are thus emptied, the Canadians are happy and the Land-Rover is driven out (it was never really stuck anyway). Notice how I kept this on topic by mentioning Land-Rover three times.. :) > I assume everyone saw the Disco given away on Wheel of Fortune last night > (Tues)? He went in over his head... :-) (water of course) Of course this year the heavy off-road traverses a long beaver dam. A wee drop on both sides, over rather deep and full of water.
