Can't remember the name of the person who asked the question about the rear
door
Anyway, a stock 2 hinge rear door is fairly iffy as far as carrying a
spare tire because it isn't very stong and eventually the door frame will
distort. Also an oversize tire will block the door handle and renders the tow
hitch as un-useable. The support issue can be helped by installing a third
hinge. A better solution is to order a genuine rear safari door that is
already set up for the third hinge. They also have the spare tire carrier
mounted higher and offset to the side, which helps to alleviate the
handle/hitch issues also. Some aftermarket rear doors are exact duplicates of
the originals so you don't solve these problems. Some aftermarket doors may
have these changes but don't know for sure. Rovers North has the better ones
and they aren't that expensive. Last time I checked they were $180. The
higher and offset tire carrier also helps prevent snagging the spare tire on
things if you are doing some very difficult off roading such as in Moab. If
you catch the spare tire such as going off a steep step that really f___s the
rear door up!
