I have a can of Dupont "Centari" in front of me and the code says
38503 A3 Land Rover Limestone. The paint in the can is limestone not
blue......What gives?

I'm in the process of trying to clean up the wiring on Sheila, and I have
a few questions not answerable in the factory wiring diagrams.

I have two lights on each wing in front, and two on each side in back.
The front lights are each one filament, the rear top lights are single
filament, the lower lights dual filament. From this, can I assume that:

One set of the front lights and the dim filament on the lower back lights
are running (marker) lamps, and the other set of front lamps are the
directionals, and the bright filament on the rear lowers are brake
lights? Jus' Wunnerin. Mail me off the list as sometimes I don't get it
properly

After destroying a few, it's kinda the answer I expected. If the
reservoir were bad it wouldn't pose a problem, but with the cylinder
rusted to hell would mean replacing the entire assy. I've tried the pick
method, only to end up pricking my finger. Oouchh!

Thanks, muchly. Just read Peter's post. Just talked to UAP here, and
Dupont # 38503 is in fact a Blue, Centarri paint type. $26 per ltr (US
qt) or $101.00 per US gallon.

Yep. Front turn signals should be yellow, rear ones should be too, but
can be red. I think yellow is better from a safety standpoint. Also, if
this an NADA SII or SIIA, the front sidelights are supposed to be
extinguished when the headlights are on.

Regarding colors of lights on LRs, what is meant in the LR context by "safari
lights" and "fog lights"? Just wondering.

Subject: Land-Rovers as Tractors

Apparently, the application of the Land-Rover as a "single package serving
a variety of needs" for the farmer was seen as quite important during the
early days. In fact, I'll bet that many of you did not know that Rover
sent a Series II 88" Regular to the University of Nebraska in 1960. The
University began testing agricultural tractors during the early part of
this century in an attempt to eliminate false claims made by the tractor's
manufacturer. If the Nebraska Test determined a tractor to produce 35 hp,
then it produced 35 hp period, irrespective of what the manufacturer might
state in its advertisements. Almost immediately, The Tests became the only
trusted standard by which all tractors could be judged. So if you wanted
to prove your product, at least in the United States, you sent a copy to
Nebraska to be tested. Apparently, seeing that their fellow English
companies of David Brown, Fordson and Nuffield had sent tractors to
Nebraska and were beginning to penetrate into the strongly patriotic
American agricultural field, Rover felt that it must do the same if its
Land-Rovers were to be accepted as viable alternatives to conventional
tractors by American farmers. Sadly, the Land-Rover must have never made a
dent in the American agricultural market as a tractor. This should have
come as no surprise: the "Farm Jeep" (which was equipped with PTO points
and such and marketed to the same audience) never caught on either and was
discontinued after a very short production run.

Subject: sorry

That should get it. Please read the comment about painting if you
would...all else appears mostly as gibberish.
Please accept my humble apologize if this worked and if it
didn't....well....accept them anyway, would you.
Oh, the stuff I wrote about GODS and grease/oil stuff, I would like answered
also.
It seems like a bit much, and it is late....but I did read your 1400+
e-mails that had piled up in the last month and scarcely whinced at all -
except at the 72 grease/oil comments, the winch stuff, something about BMW
and the Queen and a whole load of other subjects that may cause me to get
new glasses.
Thank You for your bountyless time and patience

Cheers
